Joshua Frenkel, MD MPH, is an anterior segment specialist at Wang Vision Institute in Nashville, TN. He specializes in

cataract, glaucoma, refractive, dry eye, and keratoconus treatment. Dr. Frenkel attended Oberlin College for his undergraduate

education. While at Oberlin, he was a four-year letterman on the varsity baseball team. After completing his undergraduate

degree, Dr. Frenkel moved to New Orleans, LA, where he completed his medical school at Tulane University. At Tulane, he

completed a four year combined Medical Degree (MD) and Masters of Public Health (MPH), with an MPH focus in Health

Systems Management.

After medical school, Dr. Frenkel chose to stay at Tulane for his ophthalmology residency, where he completed over 400

cataracts as a resident, the most in the nation. During his residency, Dr. Frenkel received a number of honors, including the

Millennial Eye Live Rising Star award, as well as the Young Ophthalmologist award at the Caribbean Eye conference. In

addition, he has presented at multiple national conferences and even received the Best Paper of Session award at ASCRS

After residency, he matched into a premier anterior segment fellowship at Vold Vision, in Fayetteville, AR. While at Vold

Vision, he trained under the tutelage of Steven Vold, MD, Laura Voicu, MD, and George Tanaka, MD. He gained

specialization in premium cataract surgery, refractive surgery, glaucoma, cornea, and dry eye care. His fellowship included a

focus in micro-invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), as the practice was heavily involved in clinical trials, after-market studies,

and collaboration with industries.

After graduating from fellowship in July 2019, Dr. Frenkel moved to Nashville, TN and joined Dr. Ming Wang as the second

surgeon at Wang Vision Institute. He has had a tremendous experience thus far as Dr. Wang’s protege, and the two have built

a great relationship. Dr. Frenkel is beyond excited to embark on the Physician CEO course. He has heard nothing but rave

reviews from many of his close friends and colleagues who have completed it. He is hoping to gain the knowledge and

expertise to take on a leadership role in the practice and help grow it and build upon Dr. Wang’s tremendous success.

Dr. Frenkel is a member of the Refractive Surgery Alliance; he was also recently voted in as a member of American-European

Congress of Ophthalmic Surgery (AECOS).

He was born in New York and raised in Madison, Wisconsin. His family is currently spread out across the United States. His
