Thomas L. H. Hocker, MD is dual board certified through the American Board of Dermatology for both general
dermatology and dermatopathology, and is a fellow of the American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery and
Cutaneous Oncology. Dr. Hocker is a native of San Jose, California, and attended Yale University where he was a
Verizon 1st Team Academic All-American scholar athlete in Track and Field, Yale Senior scholar athlete of the year,
Pfizer Research Fellow, and an inductee into the Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society. Upon graduation, he was
awarded the highly prestigious Churchill Fellowship, which afforded him the opportunity to pursue research at the
University of Cambridge, where he received his Master's degree in Organic Chemistry. He then attended medical
school at Harvard University, where he graduated with Honors for his research on melanoma.
He completed a 1 year Transitional Internship at the Stanford University affiliated hospital, Santa Clara Valley Medical
Center, and subsequently received his dermatology residency training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. At the
Mayo Clinic, Dr. Hocker published numerous scholarly papers, presented at multiple national meetings, and twice
scored in the top percentile in the Dermatology in-training examination, a test given to all residents across the nation.
Upon graduation, Mayo Clinic named him the Harold O. Perry Most Outstanding Scholar, a distinction given only 3
times in the preceding 15 years. He subsequently traveled to the University of Michigan for his dermatopathology
fellowship, one of the premier skin cancer treatment centers in the country. He concluded his many years of training by
returning to the Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN) for an intensive 1-year fellowship in Mohs and reconstructive surgery,
where he studied under many of the nation's premier cutaneous surgeons, including Drs. Randall Roenigk, Clark Otley,
Chris Arpey, Christian Baum and Jerry Brewer.
In addition to Mohs Micrographic Surgery, he has expertise in complex facial reconstructive surgery following skin
cancer removal. Additionally, his dual mastery of dermatopathology and Mohs surgery has provided him with unique
insight into challenging cases and has made him one of the country's young experts in rare skin tumors (adnexal
neoplasms, atypical pigmented lesions, Spitz nevi and spitzoid lesions) and challenging rashes. Dr. Hocker is currently
accepting patients with any dermatologic concern.
In his free time, his favorite activity is to tap into his inner child while playing with his 3 beautiful little girls, Anjali,
Avani and Akari. The family can frequently be spotted jumping around at the local bouncy house or Chuck E. Cheese.
He also loves to participate in Brazilian jiu jitsu and running.
