Kristina Dare O’Shaughnessy, MD is a female plastic surgeon with extensive training in cosmetic and

reconstructive surgery of the face and body. She received both her undergraduate and medical degrees from the

University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, where she graduated with honors and earned several awards for

outstanding research. Dr. O’Shaughnessy completed seven years of surgical training in the Integrated Plastic

Surgery Program at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL. After Northwestern, she received an additional

year of specialty training in aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery, under the leadership of Dr. Patrick

Maxwell in Nashville, TN.

She has received several awards for clinical and laboratory research, with highest honors for her work on

hypertrophic scar formation. As a presenter at many national meetings, including the American Society for

Plastic Surgeons, she has demonstrated her dedication to further advancing the field of plastic and reconstructive

surgery. Dr. O’Shaughnessy has authored and published numerous peer reviewed articles and book chapters

cross a wide spectrum of plastic surgery topics, with an emphasis on breast surgery, 3D imaging, wound healing,

scarring and nerve repair.

From her early years of intense competitive training as an aspiring tennis player to her real life experiences as a

trauma patient, Dr. O’Shaughnessy brings excellence in patient care, perseverance and compassion to her

practice. As a female, she offers a unique woman’s perspective, formulating a care plan from intuition, empathy

and expertise. Her aesthetic eye focuses on breast, body and facial rejuvenation. Her reconstructive practice is

broad, ranging from immediate breast reconstruction after mastectomy or lumpectomy, revision breast

reconstruction, abdominal wall repair and wound healing. She has privileges at both Centennial Medical Center

and St Thomas Midtown Hospitals where she serves as chief of plastic surgery. She is active in the community,

participating in journal clubs, and philanthropic societies such as the Tennessee Breast Cancer Coalition and The

American Cancer Society promoting breast health and breast reconstruction awareness (BRA day).

She is married to Brian O’Shaughnessy, a spine surgeon with Howell Allen Clinic and is a mother of three

beautiful daughters.
