Ashiyana Nariani, MD, MPH, American Board Of Ophthalmology certified, is a cornea specialist, refractive

surgeon and anterior segment ocular oncologist and is dedicated full time to working with the underserved

population in India.

Dr. Nariani has received numerous accolades, including The Ophthalmologist Power List 2021: Top 100

Women in Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract And Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) YES

International Grant and was recognised as one of the “top” speakers at the American Academy of

Ophthalmology (AAO) 2020 Cornea Subspecialty Day.

In 2006, she graduated summa cum laude from Tufts University with degrees in mathematics and chemistry. She

studied abroad at Oxford University (2004-2005) pursuing Mathematics and Hindu Studies.

She completed a dual degree MD/MPH from Tufts University School of Medicine (2006-2011). During medical

school, she was the recipient of the Albert Schweitzer Fellowship for service (Boston, 2007-2008) and the World

Health Organization Internship, on the Global Burden of Disease Study, in blindness and visual Impairment

(Geneva, Switzerland, 2009).

After medical school, she was awarded the J. William Fulbright Scholarship to India’s Sight For The Sightless

Initiative in Pune, India (2011-2012).

Dr. Nariani was chief resident in Ophthalmology at the University of Chicago Medical Center (2012-2015).

Her Cornea, External Disease & Refractive Surgery Fellowship was at the Duke University Eye Center (2015-

2017), where she received a Fellow Teacher of the Year Award. She concurrently completed an eye banking

fellowship at the Miracles In Sight Eye Bank (Winston-Salem, North Carolina).

Since 2019, Dr. Nariani works internationally full-time at a large, municipal government teaching hospital, King

Edward Memorial, in Mumbai, India as Assistant Professor, where she performs the complex limbal stem cell

transplants, corneal transplants and manages the ocular surface tumors.

She serves on the AAO ONE Cornea Network Committee, the AAO Global Education and Outreach

Committee and Refractive Surgery Alliance (RSA) Executive Committee and is the founder of the “2020!”

Ophthalmology Educational Series.
